Review: Tell Me Three Things

Tell Me Three Things ~ Review

Title: Tell Me Three Things
Author: Julie Buxbaum
Genre: Young Adult Romance
Rating: ✩✩
Synopsis: Everything about Jessie is wrong. At least, that’s what it feels like during her first week of junior year at her new ultra-intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. It’s been barely two years since her mother’s death, and because her father eloped with a woman he met online, Jessie has been forced to move across the country to live with her stepmonster and her pretentious teenage son, and to start at a new school where she knows no one.
Just when she’s thinking about hightailing it back to Chicago, she gets an email from a person calling themselves Somebody/Nobody (SN for short), offering to help her navigate the wilds of Wood Valley High School. Is it an elaborate hoax? Or can she rely on SN for some much-needed help?
In a leap of faith—or an act of complete desperation—Jessie begins to rely on SN, and SN quickly becomes her lifeline and closest ally. Jessie can’t help wanting to meet SN in person. But are some mysteries better left unsolved?

This is a book for all people who are in love with a cheesy cliche romance novel. It was very predictable and did not hold my interests. There are a number of people who could be SN throughout the book, but none of them are strongly developed. The chapters filled with texting conversations made it an easy read. I liked the IM conversations the best throughout the book. I felt as if the other parts of the book were too slow and didn't reveal enough about the characters past. Jessie has a poor background, that is clear, but the book doesn't take much time to dive into it. This makes it harder to relate to her reasoning for being attracted to other characters in the book with similar issues. I did enjoy watching as the relationship between Jessie and her stepbrother grew. It seemed to me as if this book and the book Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon were one in the same. The constant communicating through electronics seems to be a growing vibe in books, but I still enjoy the original ways of life. I'm the kind of person who like to sit back and read books about people who are different from me. People who are from different times or seem to live amazing, unique lives. That is why this book wasn't very appealing to me. Anyone who enjoys a cheesy everyday romance book would definitely find themselves giving this one a try.
